When we think about massage there's usually 2 areas people's minds go to.
1- sports massage, for people who play sports or have been hurt participating in sport.
2- spa spaces, massages for relaxation with twinkling lights and whale music in the background.
There's such a vast range of massages available, from Fire Massage to Thai yoga Massage. So how on earth do you choose?!
Here are my top tips for choosing your treatment AND your therapist.
Speak to the therapist
I cannot stress enough how important it is that you make contact with the therapist (in whichever way you're comfortable doing that) and get a feel for whether you're on the same page re the treatment. Also, to ensure they are trained for what you need and are looking for. Ie someone who is level 3 cannot work on any type of injury.
Work out your own budget
In your local area you will find the price of treatment ranges quite a lot.
Local to me the range is £25-£70 for an hours massage.
Decide what you're willing to pay (this might change after your 1st treatment) and get in touch with some of the therapists in the price range.
Don't expect a miracle
Go into the treatment hopeful but logical. We are not magicians, we cannot get rid of your pain/stress/mobility issue with an hours massage. In fact at all.
My last tip is probably the most important;
If a therapist says they can "fix" you or you'll feel better after 6 treatments or anything along those line I need you to get out of that relationship immediately.
We do not fix anything
We are not "healers"
The main aim of a massage is to down-regulate your nervous system so that your body can help itself.
Hold on to that as you start your search!
